2013 NFL Draft live blog: keeping up with the frenzy

Silver & Black Report is live from Radio City Music Hall in New York, NY covering this years draft. Keep tuned to this page to keep up with the latest action, along with pictures, interviews and analysis.

6:34 p.m. EST

The Raiders have just selected the final pick of their 2013 NFL Draft, and with the 233 overall selection, the Raiders select

With that, I'm out of here. Time to get some lunch/dinner and get to sleep before my 5:00 a.m. flight.

5:36 p.m. EST

The Raiders have just made second to last pick of the 2013 NFL Draft, barring any trades. With the 209th overall pick, the Raiders select WR out of San Diego State, Brice Butler. Still one more pick at #233

5:30 p.m. EST

The Raiders just selected their first defensive lineman of the draft, DT Stacy McGee out of Oklahoma University

5:02 p.m. EST

Man, it got crazy in here with the Raiders. After a trade with the Bucs, they have selected two tight ends and a running back. Meet Latavius Murray (RB), Mychal Rivera (TE), and Nick Kasa (TE). Raiders are back on the clock with the compensatory pick at 37th of this round.

3:46 p.m. EST

Raiders are back on the clock. Finally time for that defensive line selection? Maybe a safety? Wide receiver?

3:40 p.m. EST

Here you go guys, after 1 hour and 44 minutes, the fifth round is finally over and the Raiders have four draft picks in this 6th round. Three in the first 13.

3:07 p.m. EST

Been a slow fifth round with no draft picks for the Raiders. Just nine more picks in the fifth round and then off to the sixth round, where the Raiders have four picks. Should be pretty rapid fire.

2:02 p.m. EST

Was also interested to see where Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson would end up. Robinson has since switched to the wide receiver position and was just selected to the Jacksonville Jaguars. It will be interesting to see how he is utilized by the Jaguars, he is explosive and can be valuable if used correctly.

Raiders don't have a fifth round draft pick as a result of the trade to the Seahawks for linebacker Aaron Curry, who is no longer on the roster.

1:47 p.m. EST

And there's another one of my questions answered: South Carolina's Marcus Lattimore heads across the bay to the San Francisco 49er's. It's a good position for him as it will allow him to slowly get back into football with Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter there.

Really like RB Jonathan Franklin out of UCLA. I find it interesting that Green Bay doubled up after taking Eddie Lacy yesterday. They went from having no running backs last year to having two solid picks this year.

1:10 p.m. EST

The Raiders finally made their selection in the fourth round and selected quarterback Tyler Wilson out of the University of Arkansas. For a quick breakdown, read my piece here.

12:37 p.m. EST

Another local selection off the board as the Tennessee Titans select Cal's center Brian Schwenke. The Titans have struggled with their inside offensive line and hope that Schwenke can turn into a longterm option on the inside.

12:24 p.m. EST

The Raiders missed out on another pass rusher as a result of their trade, as pass rusher Alex Okafor was selected by the Arizona Cardinals. Interestingly enough though, DT Jesse Williams is still available. I've heard teams are mixed on their opinions of his injury.

12:16 p.m. EST

The Raiders chose not to utilize their 3rd pick in the fourth round and have instead traded it to the Buccaneers and gained an additional 6th round pick. The Raiders now hold onto four 6th round picks.

12:07 p.m. EST

It took awhile to make things interesting in the fourth round. Philadelphia Eagles traded their 7th round pick, 210 overall, to move up and select USC's Matt Barkley. I know some Raiders fans were hoping the Raiders would select him. Nassib time maybe for the Raiders? Or do they go defensive line which is much needed?

12:03 p.m. EST

And we are off. The fourth round is now open. The Raiders hold the third pick in the fourth round.

Pick are going to go by quickly so I am going to just give interesting points and quick analysis as it comes to, not necessarily for every pick.

10:58 a.m. EST

Back at it again here at Radio City Music Hall and the fourth round begins at approximately noon EST. On the top of my interests list are the following: where do Matt Barkley and the other QB's end up (will Reggie take one for the Raiders?); where does running back Marcus Lattimore end up after his brutal dislocated knee last year; and when will the Raiders take a defensive lineman, will it be this next round?

We will find out answers to those questions and many more in the next 5 hours or so.

9:35 p.m. EST

There goes Demontre Moore. He was once regarded as a first round pick, but fell all the way to 81st overall to the New York Giants after performing poorly at the scouting combine.

If he was really just struggling because of a hurt shoulder, that is tremendous value for the Giants who always seem to find a way to just reload that strong defensive line.

9:27 p.m. EST

Ouch, that one will hurt for Raider Fans. Local, Cal wide receiver Keenan Allen was just selected by the San Diego Chargers. I like the kid and think he will be a valuable receiver at the next level.

9:24 p.m. EST

Pretty awesome seeing Steve Gleason up on stage to announce the Saints 3rd round pick.

9:12 p.m. EST

I guess we have our answer on who would take a chance on the Honey Badger. Tyrann Mathieu is now heading to the Arizona Cardinals. He is a solid talent, a little small for a CB but can create turnovers. He will need to find a way to keep away from the off-field issues.

And now we have another quarterback off the table, but it's not Matt Barkley. Mike Glennon is heading to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It had been said that the new regime in Tampa wasn't completely behind Josh Freeman, and now it appears they have a backup plan should they give up on him.

9:08 p.m. EST

Well, the Raiders selected Moore! But a different Moore, Sio Moore. He's a solid linebacker that I figured would go higher than he did. He can help with pass rush but is also very capable in coverage. For a full breakdown, check out my piece from a little bit ago.

8:41 p.m. EST

Well, the Raiders are now on the clock. Which direction might they go? Defensive line with DT Jesse Williams or DE Demontre Moore? Quarterback with Matt Barkley or other? Wide receiver from local Cal with Keenan Allen? Only time will tell.

8:34 p.m. EST

As it always happens, there he goes. Eddie Lacy heads to Green Bay to fill a hole that the Packers have had for awhile. This is a great value pick for the Packers as they get a solid downhill runner. The knock on Lacy is he doesn't always hit the right hole and his conditioning become suspect at times, other than that I see it as a great pick by the Packers.

8:29 p.m. EST

This draft has been more surprising than previous years. Two surprising observations to me: there have only been two quarterbacks taken thus far, and we are on the 62nd overall pick. I don't know the numbers, but that surely has to be a record. The second observation is how for Alabama running back Eddie Lacy has fallen. He is the last one back in the green room, and is still waiting to hear his name be called and, like I said, we are almost through the first two rounds.

8:07 p.m. EST

Alright, to catch up after writing my piece on new Raiders offensive tackle Menelik Watson.

Some thing have interested me since I last updated:

Great pickup of tight end Gavin Escobar out of San Diego State by Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys. This will give Tony Romo another target, and I've liked him as a prospect.

I always liked Michigan State running back Le'Veon Bell while he was in college. He will be the big bruising back that the Pittsburgh Steelers have been looking for since the departure of Jerome Bettis.

Chicago Bears found someone to play inside linebacker after the departure of Brian Urlacher as they selected inside linebacker Jon Bostic out of the University of Florida.

Speaking of teams needing a middle linebacker, the Baltimore Ravens selected inside linebacker Arthur Brown, who many had rated as a very solid prospect. With the departure of Ray Lewis, and Rolando McClain seemingly not being able to stay out of trouble, this is a great value pick.

7:53 p.m. EST

Alright, now for some updates:

Raiders selected offensive tackle Menelik Watson, out of Florida State University. I thought this might happen, as I predicted it in my piece last night.

Watson is an athletic specimen but lacks great technique, but offensive line coach Tony Sparano will work on that with him. To see more about him, read here on my other piece.

7:26 p.m. EST

The San Francisco 49er's selected defensive tackle Tank Carradine. I had thought that the Raiders would want to select Carradine if he fell to them, but he didn't make it far enough for them to select.

Raiders decided to shore up their offensive line with offensive tackle Menelik Watson. Watson is a big, athletic tackle that will play on the right side while Jared Veldheer is on the left. Watson is a strong prospect.

7:08 p.m. EST

There you have it. Geno Smith is now off the board, to the hometown NY Jets. Many had expected he would go to the Jets in the first round, but they still get him in the second.

Looks like Mark Sanchez's time in New York is numbered. This place exploded with the announcement. Glad to see he stuck around to hear his name called, as it was reported he was thinking of leaving.

7:04 p.m.EST

San Diego traded up to apparently get the guy they want, and that pick turned out to be controversial linebacker Manti Te'o. I completely expect to see some creative signs coming up at Raiders games next season.

7:00 p.m. EST

Detroit Lions select Darius Slay, defensive back outside of Mississippi State. There's no question the Lions needed help on the defensive side of the ball and many had them associated with first-round pick Dee Milliner. Slay is a solid selection, and one of the last players that was sitting back in the Green Room here at Radio City Music Hall.

The Bengals hold this pick as a result of the Raiders' experiment with Carson Palmer. With the pick, Cincinnati select Giovani Bernard, running back out of North Carolina University. Bernard will give the Bengals the running back they've been looking for. Bernard always seems to find a way to gain yardage, while reducing turnovers as well.

6:53 p.m. EST

Jeremiah Trotter comes out to announce Philly's pick, as the Eagles select Zach Ertz, tight end out of Stanford University.

Ertz is the second best tight end this year and I thought the 49er's would want to go after him after the loss of Delanie Walker, but they decided to trade down and lose the opportunity, or maybe it was never their idea.

Ertz gives new head coach Chip Kelly another weapon to play with and another target for Mike Vick, or whoever will be their quarterback. Ironically, it was Ertz who destroyed the Ducks' defense last year that knocked Kelly's college team out of championship possibilities.

Cincinnati has made their choice, the Lions are on the clock. This round is going much quicker than yesterday.

6:40 p.m.EST

There's no question today is going to go much faster, so bear with the updates as they may become a little delayed, or just combined together instead of each pick.

Niners get the Jaguars third round pick in 2014 and seventh round pick this year and move down six spots. Another great move for Harbaugh and the Niners.

The Titans' selection has been announced by LB Keith Bullock and it is Justin Hunter, the wide receiver out of the University of Tennessee. The Titans needed to get Jake Locker more targets and Hunter fits the mold. He gives locker a big target on the outside.

Eagles are now on the clock.

6:35 p.m. EST

With the 33rd overall pick, the Jaguars selected Johathan Cyprien, which was announced 19-year veteran Mark Brunell.

Cyprien is a hard hitting safety and likely the best safety that was left on the board. Many Raiders fans were hoping he would fall, but it's not surprising he didn't.

This no doubt reassures the idea that the Jaguars are content with starting quarterback Blaine Gabbert for the time being.

The Niners have traded their pick, and now the Titans are on the clock.

6:31 p.m. EST

Jaguars are now on the clock, once again, they're 7:00 minute rounds.

5:40 p.m. EST

Back here at Radio City Music Hall and the draft is set to begin in a little under an hour, at about 6:30 p.m. EST. Fans have already entered the building with their wide variety of jerseys.

Going to be interesting which direction the Raiders go today, especially with their second round. I definitely believe that Reggie wouldn't mind making another trade and obtaining more ammo in the process.

Also interested to see where quarterback Geno Smith ends up after falling out of the first round today. I'm even interested to see if he's still here after reports surfaced he said he would be leaving NYC for the second round.

Jags are on the clock first, and each pick is 7:00 minutes for the second round.

11:42 p.m. EST

The St. Louis Rams chose to use the 30th pick on outside linebacker Alec Ogletree. The kid is a physical specimen and can play, they will just need to make sure he stays out of off-field issues. If he can stay out of trouble, this is a great value, but that's always a big if.

The Dallas Cowboys got this pick from the trade with the San Francisco 49er's. Jerry Jones, who may have liked the trade because they're strapped against the salary cap, picked center Travis Frederick out of the University of Wisconsins. The Cowboys needed some help at the offensive line, and the University of Wisconsin is known for putting out big offensive lines.

The Ravens have apparently found another safety for their rebuilding defense by taking safety Matt Elam, out of the University of Florida.

Time to get some delicious NY style pizza or something and get some sleep before tomorrow. Tomorrow is rounds two and three and starts at 6:30 p.m. EST

11:23 p.m. EST

Looks like still no Manti, which looks like it won't happen today. Vikings instead chose to replace the loss of Percy Harvin with wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson out of the University of Tennessee.

Patterson is a raw prospect but has shown great upside while with the Volunteers. He has shown the ability to separate himself on vertical routes, but Raider fans can likely feel for this one, as he tends to catch the ball with his body instead of his hands.

He has the build of what you look for in a wide receiver, but could still use some work on his technique.

Former Patriots offensive lineman Joe Andruzzi, and one who helped victims of Boston Marathon, helped by reading off the Vikings pick and giving a speech decorating emergency responders.

The Rams are now on the clock.

11:15 p.m. EST

Broncos chose to help their defense by selecting Sylvester Williams, defensive tackle out of the University of North Carolina.

Makes sense to get their best defensive player on the board as they look to have an explosive offense with Peyton Manning and his weapons, which now includes Wes Welker. Even if he isn't instantly a starter, adding depth is a solid choice.

New England has done what they always do, and traded their pick. Vikings are now on the clock. Are they selecting Notre Dame linebacker Manti T'eo?

11:09 p.m. EST

Houston Texans select DeAndre Hopkins wide receiver out of Clemson University. Hopkins possesses solid size and speed and will give the Texans another weapon on the outside besides Andre Johnson.

The Denver Broncos are now on the clock.

11:02 p.m. EST

Green Bay Packers select Datone Jones, defensive end out of UCLA. Jones is a solid defensive end that can line up either with a hand on the ground or standing up. He will help the Packers apply pressure on the quarterback while being opposite of Clay Matthews.

Houston Texans are on the clock now.

10:52 p.m. EST

Remember way back when, when Bjoern Werner was one of the first players to be associated with the Raiders draft pick? He fell all the way down to the colts with the number 24 pick, which is a solid decision.

The colts get a solid pass rusher that is great at defending the rush as well. The Colts got great value with this pick.

The Vikings used their pick from the Percy Harvin trade on Xavier Rhodes, defensive back out of FSU. A solid pick, after taking Sharrif Floyd at defensive tackle to apply pressure on the quarterback. Corners are going quick after the Raiders selected D.J. Hayden.

Green Bay Packers are now on the clock.

10:40 p.m. EST

The Bengals picked up another great target for quarterback Andy Dalton. Tyler Eifert was considered the best tight end in the draft by far and will take some pressure off of A.J. Green next season and make that Bengals offense even more explosive.

Meanwhile, the Falcons traded up to select cornerback Desmond Trufant. Falcons needed to help their secondary after losing Dunta Robinson. Really, with the offense that the Falcons have, they just need to help make the defense stronger.

Members of the U.S. Armed Forces joined Roger Goodell before the Vikings pick with a loud eruption of cheers and chants of "U.S.A." Great to see it.

Viking eventually selected defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd, the one that everyone thought the Raiders would select. They get a solid pass-rushing defensive tackle. If you want to see my piece on him, click here.

10:28 p.m. EST

I thought Chicago would go with Manti T'eo here, but I don't blame them for wanting to protect Jay Cutler. Cutler has had a rough time staying off of the dirt while he's been in Chi Town, and it's about time they fix it with Kyle Long, guard out of the University of Oregon.

The Cincinnati Bengals are now on the clock.

10:19 p.m. EST

Alright, time for some updates. Was busy writing up piece about D.J. Hayden.

The Buffalo Bills shocked me by taking quarterback E.J. Emanual 16th overall. It's not surprising that they took a QB, but I had figured they'd take Ryan Nassib, as it had been reported.

No question the Bills needed a quarterback though after they let go of Ryan Fitzpatrick.

The Steelers found themselves a new pass rusher in Jarvis Jones. Jones is a solid pickup and will be used all over the place with their great defensive scheme. He only dropped so far because of his spinal stenosis.

Everyone expected the Niners to use some draft picks to trade, and that they did. They moved up 13 spots to Dallas' 18th overall to select LSU's safety Eric Reid. I had previously thought Vaccaro might drop down to them, but they got a solid safety in Reid that they needed with the departure of Dashon Goldson. Jim Harbaugh most likely didn't want to miss out on his two top safeties so felt the need to move up and take his guy in Reid.

The New York Giants went with Justin Pugh, offensive tackle out of Syracuse. This only surprises me because the Giants seem to always go defense in the first round. It will be interesting to see how he pans out since he seems to be a smaller NFL tackle, including smaller arms, which can go either way. I know Raiders fans will instantly think of Robert Gallery.

Chicago is on the clock.

9:59 p.m. EST

Once again, another defensive player off the board to a team with dire need on the defensive side. The Saints select Kenny Vaccaro, safety out of University of Texas.

Vaccaro spoke highly of the San Francisco 49ers before tonight, but it looks like he is heading to New Orleans to help shore up that defense. Vaccaro is a nice physical presence in that secondary now.

Buffalo has now selected with St. Louis' pick, and the Bills are now on the clock.

9:46 p.m. EST

Looks like the Jets are comfortable with their quarterback position, at this point at least. Jets have just taken Sheldon Richardson, a solid athletic defensive tackle that will help rebuild a defense that has lost a lot of players this season.

Panthers have also picked, taking Star Lotulelei. Lotulelei is a sold run stuffer going to a team that needs defensive help badly. Now the Saints are on the clock.

9:37 p.m. EST

Reggie may have looked to see if he could have traded this pick, but it looks like if that was the case, he was unable to.

Looks like CB D.J. Hayden out of the University of Houston. Hayden's draft stock has climbed during the past weeks and he definitely fills a need where they have Tracy Porter and Mike Jenkins on one year deals.

With rumors of Raiders being interested in Hayden surfacing this morning, it appears Reggie may have gotten his guy while still accumulating a second-round pick.

NY Jets are back on the clock.

9:30 p.m. EST

The Chargers select D.J. Fluker, yet another offensive guard and offensive lineman off the board. They needed help bad protecting the quarterback. Much of their problem the last couple of years has been poor offensive line play.

The Raiders are on the clock, and Jerry Davis has been on the phone for awhile. Might another trade come? Might Reggie take Star or Floyd? Time will tell.

9:26 p.m. EST

There you have it, the Titans shore up their offensive line with the selection of Chance Warmack, offensive guard out of the University of Alabama.

Tennessee needed to find a way to help protect Jake Locker after he injured himself after a tough hit last season.

Warmack marks the fifth offensive lineman taken in the first ten rounds.

The San Diego Chargers are now on the clock.

9:18 p.m. EST

And the NY Jets decides to take CB Dee Milliner to replace Revis.

Milliner is a solid shutdown corner but has recently drawn criticism as a result of his five surgeries this offseason. He has been widely regarded as the top corner in the draft since the beginning. There's no question the Jets filled a hole with this selection, now it just remains to be seen if he will be healthy enough for training camp like his doc says.

Now on the clock is the Tennessee Titans. Do they build that offensive line with Chance Warmack?

9:07 p.m. EST

Rams get their weapon for Sam Bradford. That doesn't as much of a surprise to me. They've been seeking that weapon, and boy is he one. Jon Gruden said that he was the best prospect in the draft.

He's a speedy slot guy that is capable of hitting a home run at any time. He will be a top wide receiver in the NFL in my opinion.

Lets just say that the Bills got a lot of picks for St. Louis trading up: Bills No. 8 & No. 71 for St. Louis 16, 46, 78 and 222.

Hometown NY Jets are on the clock. Could they replace Revis with Dee Milliner?

9:03 p.m. EST

Another offensive lineman off as Jonathen Cooper is the first guard off and heads to the Arizona Cardinals to help protect new quarterback Carson Palmer. Funny thing is we asked him about protecting Palmer at the red carpet and he laughed and said he will see where he goes.

Announcer just announced Buffalo has traded to St. Louis. This shouldn't be any surprise as reports surfaced all over that Buffalo wanted to trade back, but then again, who hasn't wanted to in this year's draft? Could it be St. Louis gets Bradford a weapon with Tayvon Austin?

8:55 p.m. EST

Cleveland Browns have selected Barkevious Mingo with the sixth overall selection. Another pass rusher off of the board. He's a freak athlete from LSU and can get to the passer in a hurry. Browns have been looking to shore up that defense.

I kind of thought they might have gone with CB Dee Milliner here, but then again I'm not GM.

8:50 p.m. EST

Barry Sanders, Lions RB and Madden Cover this year, joins Goodell on the stage for Lions pick. Lions select Ezekial Ansah. Great pass rusher but not much experience in football after joining BYU. It's a risk, reward pick, but it's never a bad thing to be compared to Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul.

Browns are now on the clock.

8:42 p.m. EST

Philadelphia Eagles have selected Oklahoma offensive tackle Lane Johnson. Chip Kelly and that offense will need a solid tackle to protect Mike Vick, who took a beating last season. Only concern here is that Johnson only has one season as a left tackle with the Sooners, the other three as a right tackle. Though he did play well as a left tackle last season.  Detroit Lions are now on the clock.

8:38 p.m. EST

Announcer just reported that Raiders now pick 12th overall and 42nd overall as result of the trade. Seems like Reggie should have gotten more, but I understand if he thinks he can get his guy later in the round and is still able to pick up a second round pick. I'm sure we will hear his logic soon.

8:35 p.m. EST

Miami Dolphins find their pass rusher with Dion Jordan. Solid, quick pass rusher that can get to the quarterback. The crowd hows now erupted in a "Lets go Dolphins" after there was an eruption of "Lets go Oakland" when the Raider Nation present heard of the trade.

8:32 p.m. EST

There you have it. Reggie found his trade partner, Miami is now on the clock. Stay tuned to hear what they obtained in the trade.

8:25 p.m. EST

Goodell has announced the Jaguars have selected Luke Joekel. Chalk that one up as a loss for me. They need someone to protect their QB, which is apparently Blaine Gabbert for the time being. Two offensive lineman gone, could there be a third? By the Raiders or someone else? Mr. Davis is still on the phone, has 6:39 left on the clock.

8:23 p.m. EST

Well, Jacksonville has made their pick and Jerry Davis is now on the phone with someone. The draft executives are behind him waiting for the pick.

8:20 p.m. EST

I've been interested to see which way the Jags go with this one. I know now the popular pick will be Joekel, but part of me thinks the new ownership may want to pick their own QB. Maybe Geno? I guess time will tell. They just showed Joekel on the big screen and the crowed roared.

8:16 p.m. EST

With the first draft pick of the 2013 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs have selected offensive tackle Eric Fisher out of Central Michigan.

Guess Brandon Albert is probably on his way to the Miami Dolphins. The report leaked out earlier this morning, but many still believed that it would be Luke Joekel.

Fisher put on a good poker face at the red carpet event when asked about the Chiefs. Still two offensive tackles available.

8:07 p.m. EST

While we wait for the Chiefs pick, figured I'd share a funny story about Joe Namath when he was on red carpet earlier. The host asked him about one of best lessons he was taught and it was to say "no", eventually it turned to him telling the female host he probably hasn't had to say "no" as much as her. Take it for what it's worth.

 8:05 p.m. EST

And we are live... Looks like the Chiefs are about to be on the clock after a warm "welcome" to Commissioner Roger Goodell. By welcome, I mean boos in case you couldn't catch on to my implication. Should be noted that Goodell stated we stand strong for Boston, and we stand strong for our freedom." Crowd responds with chants of "U-S-A."

Remember, each pick in the first round is 10:00 minutes.

Sitting at the Raiders table is Mr. Davis' brother, Jerry Davis, who will once again be writing down the picks for the Silver & Black.

7:22 p.m. EST

Alright, lets do some updated. I just got back from the NFL Draft Red Carpet event. Players wore their Sunday best as they dressed to impress both the media and the fans that lined the carpet.

Some more notable quotes from those spoken to, regarding the Raiders:

Geno Smith when asked about the speculation to the Raiders: "We'll see."

Offensive Tackle Lane Johnson who had a gray suit along with a silver & black handkerchief: ""Ah, yea it does match. But I don't know. It has some blue too, so Lions?"

Defensive tackle out of University of Florida Sharrif Floyd has largely been associated with the Oakland Raiders. When asked about what it would be like to go to Oakland, stated "It's a great situation." He also went on to state that he just wants to find out where he goes.

In a humorous exchange with offensive tackle Melenik Watson, out of Florida State University, stated that silver was his favorite color, in regards to his silver & black suit. He even stated "I wish I had a silver tooth" in regards to his gold tooth he has.
