Originally published on SacramentoPress.com on May 6, 2010 Imagine walking back to your car after shopping at the Galleria Mall in Roseville. Suddenly you notice something flying in the air. As you look closer, you see that it's neither a bird nor plane but Rob Dyrdek, Dave Mirra, or another member of the DC Shoes Team of professional athletes. The Journeys Backyard BBQ Tour is coming to the Sacramento region May 8. The tour will be turning the South Outer parking lot of the Roseville Galleria into a 60,000 square foot field of fun with ramps and jumps. The tour will bring a variety of professional athletes performing flips, spins, and other amazing tricks on an array of jumps including a 48 foot wide Super Mini Ramp. Along with awesome extreme-sports action, the tour will feature a 36-foot stage presenting numerous live bands competing in a “Battle of the Bands” competition. Skaters, BMX bikers, and even freestyle motocross riders will take their turns throughout the day performing some of the world's hottest tricks on ramps launching them high into the air. Headlining the event is Dave Mirra, the Metal Mulisha freestyle motocross team, and 14 of the world's best skateboarders, including DC's Rob Dyrdek, from MTV's “Rob & Big.” Sacramento's own professional skateboarder, Matt Miller, will also be participating in the event. “This is a free event and you can get up close and personal with the DC athletes,” says Tour Manager Brian Gass, “You will not get any closer to Rob Dyrdek, Dave Mirra or the Metal Mulisha at the X Games or the Dew Tour. The Journeys Backyard BBQ Tour is the only opportunity to see these athletes in Sacramento.” This will be the first time that the tour has stopped in Sacramento in five years, and is the only stop in California this year. Sacramento makes for a great venue since many of its residents participate in action sports or are fans of the sports. “Sacramento is a perfect city for the Journeys Backyard BBQ because Sacramento has a great action sports scene. Kids are skating, riding BMX and motocross is everywhere in Sacramento. We are excited to be here,” said Gass. Sacramento's own Matt Miller is especially excited to be coming back and performing in front of his friends and the rest of Sacramento. “It should be fun because I have friends that are from there. I just love Sacramento, it's got a great vibe and it's a lot of fun to be back there,” said Miller. "Everyone will be there, from Rob Dyrdek to Josh Kalis. It's going to be fun.” The event will be taking place on May 8, from noon to 7:00 p.m. in the South Outer parking lot at the Galleria at Roseville, which is located at 1151 Galleria Blvd in Roseville.
